The landscape on the earth passes through three stages which are known as "The Cycle of Erosion."
The first stage is the stage of youth, that is the time when an already eroded earth is rejuvenated during the time of mountain building. At that time the peaks of mountains are high and jagged, and the river valleys are deep, and rivers of water pour down the jagged high slopes of the mountains.
The second stage is the mature stage, that is the time when the high peaked mountains with their jagged edges, have been worn down and rounded (smoothed), and rivers of water flow down their gentle slopes.
The third stage is the old age stage, that is the time when the mountains have been worn down to a plain, and the land is barely above sea level, and rivers of water slowly meander, across the land.
Stage 1. "The mountain building stage."
4 And the mountains shall be molten under him, and the valleys shall be cleft, as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured down a steep place. Micah 1:4
5 Every valley shall be filled, Luke 3:5
4 Every valley shall be exalted, Isaiah 40:4
Stage 2. "The mature stage."
11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11
8 Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name: Amos 5:8..Amos 9:6
19 The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man. Job 14:19
10 He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing. Job 28:10
9 Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers. Habakkuk 3:9
7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. Ecclesiastes 1:7
2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Psalm 46:2
Stage 3. "The old age stage."
7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it. Zechariah 4:7
4 ..every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: Isaiah 40:4
5..every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; Luke 3:5
Because it takes millions of years for the weathering action of rainwater and ice to break up the surface structure of the rocks that form the mountains that are upon the earth, and then, to carry those rock fragments all the way to the sea, the cycle of erosion is always, happening upon the earth, and, the earth is millions and millions, of years old.
6 It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, and hath founded his troop in the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name. Amos 9:6 Water is continually falling upon the earth.
7 Let them melt away as waters which run continually: when he bendeth his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces. Psalm 58:7 Water is continually running upon the earth.
7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. Eclesiastes 1:7 2 Water is continually running into the sea.
3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. Genesis 8:3,5 Water is continually drying up from the earth.
8 Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name: Amos 5:8 Water is, continually falling upon the earth. All of the water upon the earth is moving in a cycle. The water moves from the earth to the atmosphere and then
back again to the earth. The cycle that the earths water is moving in is called, "The Water Cycle."
