The fossilized remains of dinosaurs are dug out of the earth by people called bone collectors. Scientists called "Palaeontologists" then study the fossilized remains and put the skeletons together to build the dinosaur. From fossils that are found at sites where dinosaur bones were discovered, Scientists are able to work out how the dinosaurs lived, what other animals, creatures, birds, and or isects may have been living among, them, what type of plants there were, and what the climate was like at that time.

The fossilized remains of Stegosaurus were found in North America. Stegosaurus lived about 150 million years ago during the Mesozoic era, at the latter stages of a time which is called the Jurassic period. He was about five metres tall, nine metres long, and he weighed about two tonnes. He was a "plated-reptile" he had large upright bony plates along the midline of his back and tail, which he may have used to lower his body temperature, or raised when attempting to frighten his enemies away. He had four large and sharp bony spikes on the end of his tail which he probably used when lashing out at predators. He had a very small head, a brain about the size of a walnut, small jaws and small teeth. Stegosaurus held his head close to the ground because he had short front legs and longer back legs. Stegosaurus probably ate plants that grew close to the ground.

Stegosaurus and Allosaurus another kind of dinosaur, who may have preyed upon stegosaurus, lived in a tropical area where the weather was warm and humid, with plentiful rainfall, and many tropical storms. The land on which they lived was wide and flat, with huge rivers, and swamps, it was lush with vegetation, and there were many trees: among which were, monkey-puzzle, fir, and gingko. There were ferns, cycadeoid, horsetails, and other now extinct plants. There were also other smaller animals, land lizards, newts, cockroaches, insects, and mammals.

Scientist have not yet found stegosaurus eggs, but the stegosaurs probably laid eggs in nests that they scratched out in the earth and then covered with leaves and mud. When the young were about to hatch they probably made squeaking noises as they pecked at the insides of the shells which would have brought their waiting mothers back to the nest.

Stegosaurs probably lived and grazed in herds on the North Americans plains.

In the book of Genesis chapter 1 verse 21 it is written that God created animals the size of whales to live upon the earth.

Here is the scripture.
21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
