Meltwater.
Water drips, trickles, melts, flows, gushes, and pours from melting snow (and or snow that has been packed down and formed glaciers of ice)on the tops mountains, and the water becomes a stream, which grows to become a river as water from its tributaries (other streams, and brooks) join the turbulent rushing waters, as they race down the sides of the mountains, and flow towards the sea.
