Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers. Habakkuk 3:9

10 He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing. Job 28:10

19 The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man. Job 14:19

Rivers of flowing water continually carry billions and billions of tonnes of sediments from higher ground to lower ground.

2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Psalm 46:2

7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. Eclessiastes 1:7

Billions and billions of tonnes of sediments are continually being transported and deposited in layers, in the sea by rivers. The lower layers are compacted (pressed hard) by the continual depositing of sediments upon them. Layers of pressed sediments stick together and become stone. New rocks are formed from older rocks.
