19 The waters wear the stones: Job 14:19

Q. How does the water wear the stones?

Hollow rocks, caves & caverns, wells and underground lakes.
Limestone is made of calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate is dissolved by acid. Within the atmosphere falling drops of rain acquire carbon dioxide from the air, and the water and the carbon dioxide join together and become carbonic acid, which slowly dissolves limestone. Limestone decays. The decaying (dissolving) of limestone by carbonic acid is called dissolution. The dissolution is caused by a process called chemical weathering.

Rocks are made of minerals. Air and water attack those minerals and cause them to dissolve. Within the ground, limestone is attacked by groundwater which causes it to dissolve forming large hollows (caves and caverns) in the rocks.

Water runs down. Micah 1:4 Beneath the ground rocks are bound, confined (cramped together). Rainwater soaks into the ground, Hebrews 6:7 and the water drips and seeps down into layers of rock that are bound, confined (cramped together) within the ground, and the water runs and drips down between cracks in the rocks, and the trickling, dripping water, forms (wears) caves, and caverns beneath the ground, and sometimes the water pools together and forms wells, and large underground lakes. John 4:11,12

There are very steep rock faces, sheer dangerously steep rocks, and vertical rocks, and mountains, beside the sea. The salty waves of the sea throw rocks and stones at the shore (very steep rockfaces, sheer dangerously steep rocks, and vertical rocks, and mountains) at their sides, and this continual pounding of the very steep rock faces, and sheer dangerously steep rocks, and vertical rocks, and mountains and the widening of the cracks within the rocks by the salty particles contained within the waves (waters) wears the rocks away. (holes, and caves and caverns) in the rocks. Isaiah 57:20
